By ATTS Flight Risk: A Subpar Thriller That Wastes a Good Premise
When I first saw the trailer for Flight Risk, I was intrigued by the idea of a stripped-down thriller set entirely on a plane with just three characters. However, the trailer also gave away too much of the plot, which made me hesitant to see the film.
A Weak Plot and Uninspired Direction
The story of Flight Risk is simple: a U.S. Marshal escorts a government witness on a small plane. Along the way, they discover that the pilot is actually an assassin. While this premise has the potential for a tense and suspenseful thriller, the execution is unfortunately lackluster.
The film’s biggest problem is its weak script. The dialogue is often clunky and unnatural, and the characters are poorly developed. As a result, it’s difficult to care about what happens to them.
The direction is also uninspired. Mel Gibson, who has directed some excellent films in the past, seems to be going through the motions here. The action sequences are bland and unoriginal, and the pacing is dull.
